PrintCOLUMBIA — The Village of Cherry Hill will host its second annual SummerFest and Art Show on Saturday, but people don’t have to live there to attend.
The goal is to attract people from all around Columbia and to help familiarize them with Cherry Hill, said Kate Finley, a member of the Cherry Hill Business Association, which hosts the festival.
“The purpose is to celebrate what a lovely ambiance it has,” Finley said. “We want to have more of the local community find out about the Village of Cherry Hill, and what better way than to have a festival?”
Like last year’s event, SummerFest will feature music by Lisa Rose and Hot House and the Ironweed Bluegrass Band, as well as a show and sale of mostly Missouri-made arts and crafts.
Activities for children will include a bounce house, clowns, face painting, a golf game and a dunk tank, which can be played for a few dollars or the donation of canned goods. Access Art will also offer interactive pottery demonstrations.
Proceeds from the children’s activities will benefit the Central Missouri Food Bank.
Among the attractions is a scavenger hunt, in which participants visit businesses around the town center in an effort to familiarize them with what the village has to offer. Hourly prize drawings, including the grand prize of an overnight trip for two to Rocheport, will be held.
Aside from the food at local restaurants, free hot dogs and sodas will be available. Sales from a barbecue will also benefit the food bank.
Last year, the festival attracted more than 1,000 people, Finley said. “We consider it a success, but we’re still hoping to increase attendance.”
