Inmate pleads guilty to making threats to Wal-Mart

KANSAS CITY — A Missouri inmate has pleaded guilty to making threats to lace food products with cyanide at a Kansas City Wal-Mart.

Hugh L. Riley Jr., an inmate at the Jefferson City Correctional Center, pleaded guilty in a federal court on Wednesday to mailing a threatening letter.

The letter to Wal-Mart asked for $200,000 to stop the contamination of food products.

According to the plea agreement, a fingerprint on the letter led investigators to the 34-year-old Riley, who was in administrative segregation when it was written. He is in prison for assault and armed-criminal action.

A sentencing date has not been scheduled.
