JEFFERSON CITY — Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder is calling on fellow Republicans to back a ban on elected officials serving as political consultants.

Kinder’s remarks are prompted by the dual role of House Speaker Rod Jetton, who has been paid as a political consultant by several Republican lawmakers.

The lieutenant governor’s proposal would prohibit state elected officials from working as either a strategic consultant or fundraiser for other elected officials or candidates.

Kinder is flying around the state Tuesday highlighting the proposal as part of his re-election campaign.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Sarah Steelman outlined a similar proposal last week.
