COLUMBIA — The Columbia Police Department received a report of a three-vehicle accident involving a red Subaru, a black Ford and a blue Mazda on Providence Road before Hinkson Bridge at about 7:44 a.m. Wednesday, Columbia Police Sgt. Tim Moriarity said.
The accident was minor and there were no injuries. Further information about the cars and the people involved has not been released.
The accident occurred during rush hour in the northbound lanes of Providence Road where a “lane drop” due to construction has caused traffic to merge into one lane, Moriarity said.
One car braked and the car behind rear-ended it, causing the car behind that one to rear-end it. The accident was attributed to lack of attention.
“I’m sure construction had congested that area and may have contributed to the accident,” Moriarity said.
Police moved the vehicles out of the way, but traffic was backed up almost to Green Meadows for a while.
The construction on Providence is for a new roadway being built to the Mizzou Arena. Moriarty said that he’s not sure how long the one lane will be blocked off but it may be several weeks, and people should be careful when driving that stretch of Providence Road.
