Kansas driver injured in accident near Lake of the Woods exit

COLUMBIA — A Kansas man was injured in a two-vehicle accident late Sunday on Interstate 70 near the Lake of the Woods exit, a Columbia Police Department news release said.

At about 11:55 p.m., Samuel Meyer, 21, was traveling westbound when his Toyota Avalon crashed into the rear of a stopped GMC truck driven by Jerome Allen, 53, also from Kansas.

Allen’s truck had stalled in the traffic lane.

Upon impact, Meyer’s car caught fire. He was removed from the vehicle and taken to University Hospital.

As of 2:18 a.m., Meyer was listed in fair condition, the release said.

Neither Allen nor his passenger, Billie Pendleton, 46, was injured in the accident, the release said.

Meyer, Allen and Pendleton were wearing seatbelts, the release said.
