A lucky Columbia woman left home for a snack and came back with $10,000 after winning a scratch-off lottery game Saturday. Darylicia Wilkerson bought two $5 tickets from the Petro Mart at 500 N. College Ave. and her “Lucky 7’s” card paid off.

In an interview with the Missouri Lottery, Wilkerson said, “So, I’m sitting there, and that thing said if you find the horseshoe, you win 20 times. I’m like, anything could be up underneath here. I scratched it off all the way up and it was worth $500 all the way up.”

The game’s top prize is $77,000.

Wilkerson is a single mother with a teenage daughter and considers the win a timely blessing. In the interview, she said she plans to attend cosmetology school later this month and to use the money to pay for education costs, as well as for repairs on her car.

“Everything’s gone up, the gas, the prices on stuff, so anything like that you want to just hold onto as much as possible,” she said. “I’m overwhelmed right now.”
