JEFFERSON CITY — Republican gubernatorial candidate Kenny Hulshof raised about five times as much money as rival Sarah Steelman during the past quarter.

Campaign finance reports filed Tuesday with the Missouri Ethics Commission show Hulshof raised nearly $1.5 million from April through June, compared with $289,440 for Steelman.

Both candidates have been running TV ads for several weeks. As of the end of June, Hulshof reported more than $1.1 million on hand compared with $711,055 for Steelman.

The winner of the Aug. 5 Republican gubernatorial primary is expected to face Democratic Attorney General Jay Nixon in the November general election.

Nixon reported another strong fundraising quarter, taking in nearly $1.8 million. He reported almost $3.8 million on hand as of the end of June.

Republican Gov. Matt Blunt announced in January that he will not seek re-election.
