UPDATE: 2 suspects arrested in gas station shooting

COLUMBIA — Two suspects in a shooting at a Petro-Mart gas station in May, were arrested Friday.

Diondre J. Cooper, 19, was arrested by the Kansas City Police Department’s Detective Fugitive Apprehension Task Force. He was picked up on a warrant in connection with the May 31 shooting, according to a news release from Columbia police.

He was turned over to Columbia police, who put him into the Boone County jail. Bail was set at $100,000, cash-only bond.

At about 7:45 p.m., Columbia police arrested the second suspect, Robert D. Simmons, 35, in the 1300 block of Essex Court.

According to a police news release, officers and detectives with the Major Crimes Unit received a tip where Simmons could be found. Like Cooper, he was arrested on a warrant for unlawful use of a weapon, and jailed. Bail has been set at $100,000.

On May 31, a 29-year-old man was shot in the mouth at the Petro Mart at 3300 Falling Leaf Lane.

On June 3, Tyrius D. Williams, 24, was arrested on suspicion of a felony charge of unlawful use of a weapon.

Police then issued warrants for two other men.
