COLUMBIA — A man fell or possibly jumped off the overpass at Providence and 1-70 at about 12:05 p.m. Friday. Emergency crews placed him in neck and back braces before putting him in a University Hospital ambulance, Columbia Police Officer Mark Brotemarkle said. The man was breathing.

A police negotiator and a woman who said she was the man's daughter were on the scene when he jumped.  Some spectators gathered at MG Auto Repair yelled for the man to jump.

All lanes of I-70 are now open. The pedestrian bridge of the Providence overpass is closed.

Police had earlier closed I-70 because of the man's threats to jump off the bridge, an operator at Joint Communications said.

The man's condition and name are unknown at this time.

The Missourian is continuing to gather information about the incident.
