JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Republican gubernatorial candidate Sarah Steelman has put an additional $200,000 of her own money into the race.

Campaign finance reports filed Monday show Steelman loaned her campaign more money last week, raising the total amount of her loans to $770,000.

Steelman is running against Congressman Kenny Hulshof in the Aug. 5 Republican primary. The winner is expected to face Democratic Attorney General Jay Nixon in the general election.

Previous reports had shown Hulshof with a fundraising advantage over Steelman. But Nixon had a significant lead over both - in cash and in public opinion polls.

Steelman's latest campaign finance report shows she also received more than $25,000 from political action committees created by Rex Sinquefield, a retired investment broker and political activist.
