Rain from Hurricane Dolly prompts flash flood watch

The potential for significant rain from the remnants of Hurricane Dolly has prompted a flash flood watch through Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service posted the flood watch for Boone County along with a large part of western and central Missouri.

A Weather Service advisory, issued late Tuesday afternoon, noted that some places have received between 5 and 11 inches of rain in the past week, leaving the ground saturated and streams running high. Up to 2 inches of rain is expected tonight and Wednesday, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

"It will not take much additional rainfall to result in new problems for the watch area," the Weather Service advisory said.
