COLUMBIA — The Boone County Circuit Court will hear the state's motion Monday for a preliminary injunction against Warren Funeral Chapel and its current and previous directors.
"The court would take up the issue of whether an order needs to be issued at that time to stop any type of improper activity or to require the defendants to take certain actions," Scott Holste, a spokesman for the Missouri attorney general's office, said.
Judge Kevin Crane is scheduled to preside over the hearing, which will take place at 9 a.m. Monday at the Boone County Courthouse, according to Missouri Case.net.
Attorney General Jay Nixon filed a petition Friday with the court asking for injunctions against the funeral home, current director Harold Warren Jr. and previous director Harold Warren Sr., as well as restitution and civil penalties, according to a copy of the petition provided by Nixon's office.
According to the petition, the state is trying to close the funeral home after inspectors found bodies that had been stored for extended periods of time without refrigeration.
State inspections also found unsanitary conditions, which in one case included a garbage bag containing organs from multiple bodies in a casket, according to the copy of the lawsuit.
