Update: Sandbagging needs fulfilled

Wednesday, July 30, 2008 | 1:07 p.m. CDT

ST. LOUIS — The need for volunteer sandbaggers to fortify the power plant at Mark Twain Lake in Ralls County has been fulfilled.

Organizers say the response was quick and they thanked volunteers for their efforts.

Heavy rains have made it necessary to release massive amounts of water from the manmade lake into the Salt River.

Ralls County Sheriff Paul Forney says residents of about 30 homes are still being asked to stay out of their properties due to flooding concerns. He says some homes downstream from the dam are taking in water.
