PEVELY — Jefferson County authorities say a letter claiming information about the whereabouts of a pregnant Pevely woman is bogus.

They said someone sent a letter this week claiming to have knowledge and photographs related to the missing-person case of Amanda Jones.

She disappeared nearly three years ago after a scheduled meeting with the man she said fathered her baby boy.

Sheriff's Department Lt. Dave Marshak said Friday that investigators located the writer, who suffers from a mental illness and is fixated on the case. He said the woman had called with other tips in the past but that she won't be charged.
