Columbia makes cooling centers available to residents

COLUMBIA - If you can't stand the heat, get inside.

Boone County is expected to see a potentially dangerous combination of heat and humidity, with the heat index likely to reach triple digits, beginning on Sunday. The sweltering heat should last until Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Recognizing the dangers of extreme heat, Columbia has the following cooling centers available to its residents. These locations will operate during each of the facilities regular business hours:

ARC

1701 W. Ash St. 874-7700

Monday-Friday: 5:30 a.m.- 9:30 p.m.; Saturday: 8 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sunday: 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

Street Armory Sports and Community Center

Columbia Public Library

Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday: 1 p.m.-5 p.m.

Columbia Mall
