CAPE GIRARDEAU - Rocker Rick Springfield will leave the amplifiers at home for a benefit concert in southeast Missouri.
The singer, who had a string of hits in the 1980s that included "Jessie's Girl" and "Don't Talk to Strangers," plans an acoustic concert Oct. 4 at Buckner Brewing Co. in Cape Girardeau. Proceeds benefit Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship.
Springfield is a family friend of Shannon and Amy Aldridge of Cape Girardeau, whose 13-year-old daughter, Sahara, died of brain stem cancer in November. The family says Sahara benefited from the program at Mississippi Valley.
Three songs from Springfield's latest album, "Venus in Overdrive," were written about Sahara.
Springfield also performed in Cape Girardeau in 2006 at a benefit show to help offset Sahara's medical bills.
