CAPE GIRARDEAU - A southeast Missouri man died after the boat he was in collided with a barge on the Mississippi River.
The incident happened late Wednesday at Cape Girardeau. The Missouri State Water Patrol said 39-year-old Gregory Jobe of Chaffee and his brother, Shawn, were in a johnboat preparing to go fishing when the boat struck a docked barge.
The boat capsized and went under the barge. Shawn Jobe pulled himself to safety on the barge, but could not save his brother.
The search continued Thursday for Gregory Jobe's body.
It marked the second time in a week that boaters on the still-high Mississippi have gone missing. On July 30th, 52-year-old Harold Smith and 46-year-old Arthur Barton, both of Farmington, were reported missing. Both are presumed drowned.
