Truck crashes into tree

COLUMBIA - The driver of a pickup truck was taken to a hospital Thursday night after crashing into a tree just west of the intersection of Clark Lane and St. Charles Road.

The truck's passenger, who suffered cuts to the face, refused treatment, said Nikki Antimi, a deputy with the traffic unit of the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

As of 10:15 p.m. Thursday, it was unknown whether the driver and passenger were wearing seat belts. Antimi said deputies did not yet know if alcohol was involved, and no arrests were made.

Antimi said the truck swerved off the north side of Clark Lane before the driver over-corrected and struck a tree on the south side of the road, leaving the truck's front end mangled.

"It appears (the truck) was the only vehicle involved," said Antimi.
