No injuries in accident at West Boulevard, Ash Street intersection

Saturday, August 9, 2008 | 9:40 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — Police arrived at the intersection of West Boulevard and Ash Street this afternoon in response to a non-injury accident. Helen Bittle, 18, was headed northbound on West Boulevard in a black Mercedes when she was struck by Bren Ross, who was heading eastbound on Ash Street in a silver Saturn.

Bittle had primary control of the intersection, Officer Trisha Rigsby said, and Ross' vehicle struck the rear driver's side of Bittle's sedan.

The side airbag deployed in Bittle's car, and though no one was severely injured, Bittle's arm was bruised.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
