HANNIBAL - A Hannibal man is dead after reportedly trying to stop two men from attacking awoman, and his alleged assailants face charges of second-degree murder.

The victim is 45-year-old Rodney Wood. The suspects, 22-year-old David Ater and 21-year-old Nathan Stice, both of Hannibal, are jailed on $500,000 bond.

The incident happened early Sunday as Wood was riding a motorbike. Friends say Wood saw the two men attacking a woman whose age was not known.

He reportedly stopped to help, and the men began attacking him. Ater and Stice were both arrested later Sunday. In addition to murder charges, both are charged with involuntary manslaughter and kidnapping.
