MEXICO, Mo. — Jury selection begins in the trial of a man accused in the ambush killing of a rural Warren County grandfather.
The jury will be selected in Audrain County, then moved to Boone County, where the trial of 39-year-old Jesse Snyder of Ulman will be heard on a change of venue.
Snyder is charged with first-degree murder, burglary and other charges in the 2004 death of 60-year-old Charles Windmann of Foristell.
Prosecutors say the victim was fatally shot by Snyder, who was hiding out and waiting for him. Police say the motive was visitation rights for Windmann’s then 4-year-old granddaughter.
Snyder’s wife, Jamie Snyder, is Windmann’s estranged daughter-in-law. The Snyders are among five people charged with murder in the case.
