PrintSPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Barry County Sheriff says a Kansas City-area man is dead after his single-engine plane crashed in southwestern Missouri.
Sheriff Mick Epperly identifies the victim as 77-year-old Theodore Anderson of Blue Springs. Anderson’s plane went down Sunday near the Mark Twain National Forest, just after taking off from the airport in Shell Knob.
Epperly said Anderson’s Cessna 182 took a nose dive and hit a tree as it burst into flames. The sheriff said it was hard to determine the point of impact because the plane shattered into hundreds of pieces.
Investigators believe the plane was having mechanical issues.
