Jason Harris, left, Wes Mcallister, center, and Steve Botts, right, lay down fresh sod on the Francis Quadrangle on Wednesday morning. Their work should be finished by Friday. The soil had been removed during construction of the Reynolds Journalism Institute.

COLUMBIA — Construction crews began to re-sod the north end of MU's Francis Quadrangle on Wednesday morning. In late June, crews removed fencing and equipment and had been preparing the packed soil and sprinkler system for sod.

The quad's north side had been used as a staging area for crews working on the Reynolds Journalism Institute since January 2006.

The sod will be laid in time for students to enjoy the quad upon their return to MU later this month, said Phil Shocklee, Campus Facilities associate director.
