KANSAS CITY - Two lawsuits have been filed that challenge the constitutionality of a Missouri ballot measure that would allow high-stakes gambling and that would cap the number of casinos in the state.
Both lawsuits make similar legal arguments, but the plaintiffs in each have different perspectives on casino gambling.
One case was brought by Cape Girardeau and Sugar Creek residents who want casinos built in their communities and oppose the measure's cap on casinos. The other was brought by antigambling activists.
Each lawsuit, however, contends the ballot measure violates the Missouri Constitution's prohibition against initiative petitions dealing with more than one subject.
The lawsuits were filed Thursday in Jefferson City.
