COLUMBIA - The body of a woman was discovered in a vehicle's trunk Thursday night near Stadium Boulevard and U.S. 63 after the driver was pulled over on suspicion of unrelated traffic violations, Columbia police said.

The cause and time of the woman's death were not immediately known, according to a news release from the police issued just before 12:30 Friday morning.

Shortly before 8:30 p.m., Joint Communications and the Missouri State Highway Patrol began receiving reports of a vehicle being driven erratically on U.S. 63 near Gans Creek Road, the release said. The vehicle didn't have its headlights on, was "weaving dangerously" and headed north and into Columbia, the release said.

Officers found the vehicle near Stadium Boulevard and U.S. 63, after which they saw further traffic violations, according to the release.

The vehicle was pulled over on Audubon, immediately north of Stadium, the release said. The driver, described in the release as a 19-year-old white man, was arrested on "unrelated traffic offenses," and a subsequent search of the car revealed the body.

The woman was identified as being white, the release said.

Police were not releasing the names of the man or the woman at this time, the release said.
