University Health Care services and the UM System's medical schools will be consolidated under a new health science center. UM System President Gary Forsee and MU Chancellor Brady Deaton announced the reorganization at a 9 a.m. news conference.
The center will be headed by a new vice chancellor for health sciences. Dr. Harold Williamson, a professor of Family and Community Medicine at MU, agreed to serve as interim vice chancellor while a national search is conducted to permanently fill the position. The reorganization also calls for a University of Missouri Health Care advisory board chaired by Forsee. The new consolidated organization will officially begin operations Sept. 8.
The Missourian will have an updated story later in the day.
