BONNE TERRE  — The Missouri Department of Corrections says the death of an inmate has been ruled a homicide.

A 33-year-old inmate, Mike Simmons, died April 30 at the Eastern Reception Diagnostic Correctional Center in Bonne Terre. Corrections said the case was referred to the St. Francois County prosecuting attorney's office this month. Charges have not been filed in the case.

Simmons was serving a 10-year sentence for burglary, forgery and passing bad checks. He was received into the Department of Corrections in May of 1999 from Benton and Henry counties.
