Race newspaper suspends publication so it can expand

KANSAS CITY - RiseUp has stopped publishing for two months while the newspaper insert about race and ethnicity prepares to nearly double its circulation.

Publisher Janice Ellis says the Kansas City-based publication will review reader responses and prepare to increase its circulation to more than 7 million. The break runs from Aug. 3 to late September.

Ellis says on the publication's Web site that RiseUp is "pausing to address the need for additional printing and transportation capacity."

RiseUp has been an insert in the New York Daily News, Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, Kansas City Star and St. Louis Post-Dispatch, among other papers.

RiseUp started publication on June 20. It focuses on creating a sustained conversation about race and ethnicity in newspapers.
