KANSAS CITY — A Kansas City man is sentenced to 12 consecutive life sentences plus 120 years for raping a dozen women in the city's Westport area in the 1980s.
The Kansas City Star reports that 52-year-old Shy Bland showed no emotion as Jackson County Judge Ann Mesle imposed the sentence on Friday. Bland also listened as several of his victims asked the judge for the harshest potential sentence.
Jurors convicted Bland in June of the rapes, as well as five attempted rapes and other crimes.
The victims ranged in age from 21 to 40 and lived near Bland.
A police lab matched Bland's DNA to evidence from the old rape cases three years ago. The connection came just before Bland became eligible for parole on a 115-year sentence for another rape.

Jail might be too good a place for this guy, however at least now he'll be a sitting duck and be on the receiving end. I also wonder which circle/level/tier awaits him in Dante's inferno?
This is why there is so much wasting of funds in our judicial system is due to this type of sentencing. Give the guy one chance at an appeal of a 6 month duration and if original verdict is upheld off to the "injection table" with them. Our tax dollars do not need to be supporting those on "life sentences" or "death row" when our government cannot even hardly feed our own citizens who have nothing at all and all of our governmental services at the Federal,State and City levels are over burdened now as it is. How much money would be freed up to be used in services where it is actually needed instead of feeding criminals who obviously had no regard for a human life.
