COLUMBIA — For the third time in four years, the University of Missouri System will honor an MU administrator with an academic leadership award.

On Sept. 22, Dr. Bruce Walker, the dean of MU's College of Business, will be honored with the Manuel T. Pacheco Academic Leadership Award. The award is presented annually to an academic administrator in the UM System, who has "exhibited humility and respect for others and who worked diligently to develop leaders," a UM System press release said.

Walker was recognized for developing and twice updating a comprehensive strategic plan which "engaged hundreds of alumni in its educational activism," according to the release. He has helped raise over $100 million that support student scholarships, faculty positions, development programs and Cornell Hall, the release said.

"Under his leadership, the college has grown in both enrollments and quality," MU Provost Brian Foster said. "Bruce has helped to attract and retain top-caliber faculty and staff members."

Walker is also the Landford Professor of Leadership.

Rose T. Porter of MU's Sinclair School of Nursing won the award in 2004 and R. Dean Mills, dean of MU's School of Journalism, won in 2005.
