A Texas grandmother has pleaded guilty after being accused of leaving her granddaughters in the car while she went into a Missouri casino to gamble.
Caruthersville police were called to the Lady Luck Casino in the Missouri Bootheel town of Caruthersville on Saturday evening for a report of a missing car with missing children. Glenia Roberts, 56, of Rock Port, Texas, told police she had left two girls in her vehicle while she gambled.
The girls, ages 13 and 6, and the vehicle were found at a nearby park that same evening.
Roberts pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of second-degree child endangerment. She was ordered to serve two days of shock jail time, received a suspended one-year jail sentence and was placed on probation. She was ordered to pay a $150 fine. The children were to be placed with a family member in Texas.
Roberts did not have an attorney listed in court records.
A spokeswoman for St. Louis-based Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. said the company considered it a police matter and had no additional comment.
