PrintCOLUMBIA - A home received an estimated $2,500 of damage after a small fire broke out in a front bedroom Thursday, a Columbia Fire Department news release stated.
At 2:24 p.m., the home's occupant, Catherine Prall, called 911 and reported the fire in the Columbia Regency Trailer Park on East Nifong Boulevard.
Fire crews said they noticed smoke coming from the home when they arrived, and, upon entry, discovered a small fire in the front bedroom, which they quickly put out.
Crews then used large electric fans to remove the remaining smoke from the home. No one was injured in the fire, the release stated.
Before fire crews arrived, a visitor to a nearby home noticed smoke coming from Prall's residence and entered the home to help her, the release stated. He tried to put out the fire with pans of water and a garden hose. The home did not have any smoke detectors installed, according to the release.
The American Red Cross is providing emergency housing assistance to the home's occupants. Investigators are still trying to determine a cause of the fire.
