PrintJEFFERSON CITY — Investigators say a body found in Virginia may be that of a southeast Missouri man who fled after being charged with child sodomy.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says hikers found the man's remains Monday on private property near the Hungry Mother State Park in western Virginia.
The patrol said Wednesday that investigators found a passport belonging to John Dunivan at the scene, as well as other evidence indicating the body likely is his. The remains were discovered a little more than a mile from where Dunivan's truck was found last year.
Dunivan is a former Butler County clerk who was charged in nearby Ripley County with first-degree statutory sodomy involving a child younger than 14. He fled Missouri in July 2007.
