Boil order for Chaffee water ends

CHAFFEE - For the first time since Aug. 26th, the boil order is over in the southeast Missouri town of Chaffee.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources lifted the boil order Thursday after 11 tests for bacteria showed no problem.

The order was issued after a DNR inspection found virtually no chlorine in the city's water system. That inspection came days after a public works employee was rushed to the hospital after being overcome by chlorine gas from a malfunctioning chlorinator at the water plant.

DNR officials are still trying to determine what changes need to be made at the water plant.

Chlorine is added to public water supplies to kill disease-causing bacteria.
