COLUMBIA — Sunday will see the celebration of an ending — and a beginning — for Broadway Christian Church members.
They will not hear their senior minister, Rick Frost, speak at the regular sermon times of 8, 9:30 or 11 a.m. — the current associate minister will present those.
Instead, when the clock strikes noon, church members will celebrate the legacy of Frost's 22 years with the church at the "Frost Farewell Luncheon."
Catered by Jack's Gourmet Restaurant, the luncheon will give those who reserved a seat a final chance to remember and reflect on Frost's involvement at the church.
Frost has faithfully served in various ministries and locations for more than 40 years, said Debby Graham, church staff member.
The man who will fill his shoes, or at least his place at the pulpit, is Interim Senior Minister Larry Gallamore. Gallamore, expected to serve as interim minister for 12 to 18 months, was chosen by a team to help Broadway Christian Church through the transition process.
The church is not expecting any negative effects, but it is aware that "there is a grieving process in not seeing someone who's been there for years," Graham said.
The farewell luncheon is part of that process, as is an optional class session titled, "Oh No, My Pastor's Gone."
Gallamore and his wife, Jan, will be getting to know members of the church community in home gatherings throughout September.
