COLUMBIA - Former MU basketball player Jason Horton pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor peace disturbance Friday in Boone County Circuit Court.
Associate Circuit Judge Deborah Daniels sentenced Horton to one year unsupervised probation with 10 hours of community service.
"I'm just happy to get it over with and move on," Horton said after the five-minute hearing.
The charge stems from a Jan. 27 fight outside the since-closed Athena Night Club on the corner of Hitt and Locust streets. Horton and Stefhon Hannah, another former MU basketball player, were accused of participating in a fight with employees from Nikai Mediterranean Grill, which was located in the same building as the night club.
Hannah pleaded guilty to misdemeanor peace disturbance on April 15 and was sentenced to two years unsupervised probation and 20 hours of community service.
Columbia attorney Christopher Slusher originally filed a not guilty plea on a charge of misdemeanor third-degree assault for Horton on Feb. 15.
Horton, a former Tiger guard, failed to appear for his originally scheduled 9 a.m. Friday trial time due to delays in traveling from his home state of Texas. He arrived at the Boone County Courthouse around 1:30 p.m.
Horton graduated from MU in May and said he plans to play professional basketball.
