PrintCOLUMBIA — An autopsy performed Monday on the body of a Columbia woman found dead in a car near the Katy Trail on Friday revealed no evidence of foul play, Boone County Medical Examiner Eddie Adelstein said.
Toxicology results will take at least two weeks, Adelstein said.
Maj. Tom Reddin of the Boone County Sheriff's Office said authorities are treating the case as a death investigation and are not ruling out any possibilities.
"We found no evidence of violence or injury to her body at the scene," Reddin said.
A person using the trail Friday found the body of Terri Romano, 49, in a car parked at the McBaine parking lot. The person's dog had run over to the car, which was a small, blue, four-door sedan registered to Romano, Reddin said.
Her body had started to decompose, Reddin said, but, because of environmental factors, it was difficult to determine how long she had been dead. A witness told officers that Romano's car had been parked in the lot for a few days - possibly since Tuesday - without being moved, Reddin said.
He said Romano's husband had reported her missing on Aug. 30, and authorities had been searching for her unsuccessfully until Friday.
