PrintJEFFERSON CITY — A state senator says he will try to override Gov. Matt Blunt's veto of legislation giving voting privileges to the student member of the University of Missouri System Board of Curators.
Sen. Chuck Graham, a Democrat from Columbia, said Tuesday that students are allowed to vote for political leaders and should have a say in how the university operates.
The legislature is to convene at noon Wednesday to consider whether to override bills vetoed by the Republican governor. It takes 109 votes in the House and 23 votes in the Senate to override a veto.
Legislation giving potential voting rights to the student curator passed the Senate 31-2 and the House 100-47, despite objections from Board of Curators. But Blunt vetoed the bill, calling it "riddled with problems."
