JEFFERSON CITY — A St. Louis-area lawmaker has pleaded not guilty to felony charges of deviate sexual assault.
Republican Scott Muschany waived formal arraignment Tuesday in the Capitol's home of Cole County. The 42-year-old lawmaker was indicted by a grand jury last month and is accused of having "deviate sexual intercourse" on May 17 without the consent of a person identified only as "B.R.S."
A hearing is scheduled for Oct. 27. Deviate sexual assault is a Class C felony with a prison term of up to seven years.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has reported that the indictment is in connection with a sexual assault of the 14-year-old daughter of a state employee who had worked for the House.
