KANSAS CITY - Additional flood warnings have been posted in parts of Missouri as a rain-packed weather system moves through the state, closing roads and slowing traffic.
The National Weather Service on Friday issued a flood warning for Boone County and parts of Callaway County, including the cities of Columbia and Fulton. The warning will be in effect until 4:15 p.m. Friday.
Law enforcement officers reported several roads were closed in Fulton and around Boone County.
Three to 6 inches of rain are expected to fall in central Missouri between Friday and Sunday, said Butch Dye of the National Weather Service in St. Louis.
According to the Agriculture Experiment Station, which updates local weather conditions every five minutes on its Web site, Columbia had 1.88 inches of precipitation by 1 p.m. on Friday.
In St. Louis, dozens of cars drove through high water that in some cases nearly reached hood level. Some motorists pulled onto grassy areas along streets to wait for the water level to drop.
