COLUMBIA — Rock Bridge suffered two losses Friday night, a 32-7 defeat to McCluer North and lineman Skylar Hinton, who left the game with a leg injury in the second quarter.
Hinton, a junior, is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Bruins head coach A.J. Ofodile guessed after the game it was a broken tibia.
"I think it's a blow for him and for our team," Ofodile said. "We'll miss that presence tremendously."
For the second consecutive week, the Bruins offense was limited to one touchdown.
While Stuart Eiken ran 100 yards on six carries, 78 of them came on a long run in the second quarter that set up Rock Bridge's lone score. Tedder Easton scored from a yard out to cut the score to 12-7 just before halftime.
Rock Bridge quarterback Darryn Hill tried to overcome poor pass blocking and multiple drops by Bruins receivers on his way to a 7-for-16 performance for 19 yards.
Ofodile wasn't pleased with his offense's production.
"We didn't play well," he said. "We had poor offensive execution...We're not a very good offensive team. We don't have anything to scare anybody."
McCluer North's offense sputtered early, managing a 47-yard field goal from Alex Beckman and a safety in the first quarter to break ahead 5-0.
Quarterback Ralph Watson pushed the lead to 12-0 with a 12-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Watson, who ran 13 times for 132 yards, outrushed the Bruins by 34 yards.
In spite of their struggles, the Bruins kept the game close throughout the third quarter, holding McCluer North to another Alex Beckman field goal.
The final quarter was another story as the Stars scored 17 points, including a 47-yard touchdown scamper by Watson.
In all, McCluer North racked up 286 yards rushing on 41 carries by seven different players.
The Bruins face Jefferson City, whose offense has predominantly relied on the run, on the road Friday.
So, what adjustments are the Bruins going to make to stop the run next week?
"We don?t have to make any adjustments," Ofodile said. "We have to do things the right way. We had blown assignments. We need to try to focus in."
