JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri social service workers are heading to Louisiana to help handle emergency food stamp requests.

Gov. Matt Blunt said Monday that 141 Department of Social Services employees are part of the disaster relief effort for Hurricane Gustav. The Missouri workers are expected to be in Louisiana for about two weeks.

The travel expenses and salaries of the Missouri workers are to be covered by Louisiana.

Since Aug. 30, Blunt also has mobilized more than 1,300 Missouri National Guard members to help hurricane relief efforts in Louisiana.
