COLUMBIA - Missouri Task Force One is on its way home, Boone County Fire Protection District Fire Chief Steve Paulsell reported at a regular board meeting Wednesday.
"They were demobilized yesterday and they're due back between 2 and 3 p.m. tomorrow," Paulsell said.
After returning from a deployment to the Republican National Convention, the FEMA-sponsored Urban Search and Rescue Task Force was deployed to Lafayette, La., to assist with rescue efforts following Hurricane Ike.
"They got back from the RNC and immediately got turned around and sent to Ike," Paulsell said.
Paulsell said volunteers had donated more than 13,000 hours to the Fire District in August. The Fire District responded to 344 emergency calls in August, he added.
Board Chairman John Gordon noted that 69 percent of the Fire District's August responses were medical, with fire calls making up only 7 percent of the total volume.
The board will meet at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 1 at the Fire District headquarters to discuss emergency medical service to Centralia.
The board of directors' next regular meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at Fire District headquarters, located at 2201 I-70 Drive NW.
