HANNIBAL — Two Missouri Department of Transportation workers were honored for lifesaving efforts during a summer flash flood.
Keith Golian and Thomas Ragland recently received MoDOT's Meritorious Safety Award during a ceremony in Hannibal.
On July 25, two young men from Galesburg, Ill., Ian Hughes and Garrett Pechenka, were traveling on Route 19 between Center and Perry. Extensive rains caused flash flooding, and their car was swept off the road. The men found themselves clinging to trees.
Both Ragland and Golian were involved in getting life jackets to the men, who were pulled to safety. Ragland works as a signing crew member but is also a volunteer firefighter in Perry. Golian is a maintenance worker and a volunteer firefighter in Center.
