COLUMBIA - A robbery occurred at about 12:05 a.m. Wednesday on the MU campus between Engineering Building East and Switzler Hall, according to an MU Police news release. The victim, a 21-year-old MU student, reported that he was approached by three males.

One man attacked the victim from behind and dragged him to the ground, leaving him vulnerable so the other two men were able to kick him, rifle through his backpack and steal his cellular phone and wallet, the release said. After the incident, one suspect ran toward Peace Park and the other two ran toward the intersection of Sixth Street and Stewart Road.

MU Police arrived at Francis Quadrangle around 12:10 a.m. According to the release, the victim told police the first suspect was wearing a dark green or gray cloth-type jacket with no hood, brown jersey gloves, and dark pants; the second suspect was wearing a black hood or a hooded sweatshirt and dark pants; and the third suspect was wearing dark clothing and a black-and-white handkerchief over his face. The victim did not accept medical attention. MU Police sent a mass e-mail Wednesday to alert the campus community about the incident.

Those with any information can call Detective Vernon Gerling at 884-2605 or Crime Stoppers at 875-8477.
