COLUMBIA - With a stunning sunset serving as a dramatic backdrop, Hickman senior Taylor Cowan pitched a perfect game to lead the Kewpies' softball team to a 1-0 victory over rival Rock Bridge on Thursday night at University Field on the MU campus.
Cowan had 10 strikeouts and used the support of a stingy Hickman defense to win the game. Both teams were held hitless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Hickman had a single. The Kewpies' victory came with just two hits, and the lone score came on a Rock Bridge error.

"It was a great game," Rock Bridge coach Joe Henderson said. "Everybody got to witness a great game."
The win keeps Hickman undefeated. Calling Cowan an integral part of that success is definitely not a reach.
"Taylor has thrown all but something like four innings for us. She is the workhorse," Hickman coach Courtney Haskell said.
The loss drops Rock Bridge to 9-2 on the season. The Bruins continued to show promise in the loss, however, with freshman Lauren Fuller pitching impressively. The hard-fought game came down to Cowan's pitching cooling off Rock Bridge's formerly hot bats, especially eliminating the bunt.
"I knew it would be a close game," Henderson said. "We just didn't hit very well. The bunts set up the hits."
In the end, though, the night belonged to Cowan. Both coaches couldn't help but heap praise on the Hickman pitcher.
"This is an emotional game," Haskell said. "Her defense helped her out. She just threw a great game."
