LETTER: Support the troops, support Senate Resolution 636

Thursday, September 18, 2008 | 3:25 p.m. CDT

After listening to Senator Obama accept his party's nomination for president, I wanted to bring attention to Senate Resolution 636. The purpose of Senate Resolution 636 is to recognize the success of the surge and the troops dedicated to victory in Iraq. Never once did Senator Obama mention the surge and the progress that we are making in Iraq. Therefore, I am asking that all senators support Senate Resolution 636. Regardless of whether or not you agree with our decision to go into Iraq, we need to recognize the individuals who are sacrificing their lives to complete the mission. Since implementation of the surge, security incidents, ethno-sectarian deaths, U.S. military deaths and civilian deaths have all declined considerably. A vote for this resolution is a vote for finishing the job in Iraq. A vote against the resolution is a vote against the surge, our troops and our responsibility as Americans to complete the mission in Iraq.
