SPRINGFIELD - Authorities in southwest Missouri have charged 16 people who were at a party last weekend where an underaged Drury University student suffered alcohol poisoning.

Stone County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Selby said the 16 are being charged with possession of alcohol by a minor. He said he doesn't know how many are Drury students.

The party took place Sept. 13 in Stone County on "Bid Day," when Drury students who want to join fraternities learn if they have been accepted.

The mother of the 18-year-old freshman, who was taken to a hospital for alcohol poisoning, said her son is home in stable condition.

University officials said the two fraternities that organized the party could face serious sanctions.
