COLUMBIA — Boone County Sheriff's deputies recovered stolen property on Sunday that was reported missing after a string of larcenies from vehicles in Columbia and the eastern part of Boone County.

Over the weekend, deputies obtained a search warrant for a home on Navaho Avenue in the Indian Hills subdivision, Detective Tom O'Sullivan said.

During the search, deputies recovered numerous stolen items including purses, credit and debit cards, gift cards, a PalmPilot and a laptop computer. Software in the stolen computer, which a resident reported stolen from a vehicle in the 5300 block of Trikalla Drive on Sept. 19, led deputies to the home, O'Sullivan said.

It allowed officers to pinpoint the computer's location and obtain a search warrant for the residence. Police are investigating a member of the homeowner's family in the thefts.

Many of the recovered items were returned to the Columbia police, who had received many theft reports in the area earlier in the month, O'Sullivan said. Deputies are notifying victims of the recovered items.

Police are still searching for the suspect in the larcenies, who was not present at the time of the search.
