Mo. farm group seeks role in hog-farm ruling

JEFFERSON CITY — The Missouri Farm Bureau Federation wants a Cole County judge to reconsider a hog-farm permit ruling that some critics fear could put the brakes on the state's agricultural business.

The group filed a motion Tuesday to intervene in an August ruling that prohibits any concentrated animal feeding operations within 15 miles of the village of Arrow Rock and nearby historic sites. The Farm Bureau also wants the court to reconsider that ruling.

Opponents of a planned 4,800-head indoor hog farm two miles outside the historic village filed suit to block the project. State Department of Natural Resources Director Doyle Childers and others said the ruling could jeopardize other agricultural operations in Missouri.
